Katsumi Idogawa Sensei trained in Genseiryu Karate with Kunihiko Tosa Sensei, the president of the International Genseiryu Karatedo Federation in his early twenties in Japan. Later he started Aikido training in the Aikikai Foundation with Mosatoshi Yasuno Sensei. He also trained in Ki style Aikido at the Ki No Kenkyukai Foundation. He started teaching Aikido in his own Aikido club, Oizumi Aikido Club, in 1996 the year legendary Seigo Yamaguchi Sensei passed away. The name of the Oizumi Aikido Club comes from the name of the town in Tokyo where it was located and where Yamaguchi Sensei resided. This club is currently being run by one of Katsumi Sensei's students Hiroyoshi Sawai Sensei. In 2004, the year he moved to Canada, he established the CMA Aikido Club. He later established the Tokyo Aikido Club in Ottawa at the Ottawa Aikido Centre and in Kemptville. In these clubs he taught Aikido to all age groups from Toddler to Adults. Oizumi Aikido Club CANADA was established in 2010.

Katsumi Sensei holds a 6th Dan (Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Tokyo, Japan).

The adviser of his club is Masatoshi Yasuno Shihan of the Aikikai Foundation (Aikido World Headquarters) 8th Dan. Katsumi Sensei’s Grand Teacher is Seigo Yamaguchi Shihan (1924~1996) 9th Dan.

What is Aikido for you?
For me, the Aikido style, which deals with outside events impinging on us by smoothly blending with them (without aggression) rather than opposing them, teaches not just physical movement, but a state of mind which is applicable to how we think and react to all situations encountered in life.

What is Aikido for you?
It's very difficult for me to put what Aikido means to me, that this quote from O'Sensei helps me try to explain what Aikido means to me: "When an opponent comes forward, move in and greet him; if he wants to pull back, send him on his way"
